Sugar - the True Culprit to Weight Gain

A few months ago I decided I wanted to get ripped up for summer. I normally come to this conclusion around May of every year but this year I had a different goal in mind. Normally I would change my diet (somewhat) and do more cardio to burn off some of the excess fat. I love to eat so I would just make sure I stayed in the gym longer. This year however, I wanted to go all the way. I decided I was going to almost completely cut out carbs. I had tried many diets in the past from Ketone to appetite suppressants but never got the great results I wanted. I did see results but they were always a grand “meh”. So this year I tried to cut out almost all carb intake and see where that got me. I learned a few things from this.

  • Complete loss of energy.

  • Had better results than the past but still not quite the ultimate ripped look I was looking for.

  • My brain functioning started to tip in a negative direction.

I decided to ask my head coach back in Houston on his thoughts of what I was doing. He told me that carbs get a bad rap in today’s age but the real culprit was sugar. He explained that carbs weren’t nearly as bad as what everyone made it out to be but what I really should be looking out for were processed foods, and sugar. His suggestion was to get on Netflix and watch the documentary called “FedUp”. I was interested but didn’t think I would see anything that would really surprise me or assist me more than what I already knew. The results were 1) I was surprised, and 2) the American food industry is slowly killing our society. Don’t get me wrong I love a What-a-burger’s double cheeseburger just as much as the next guy but it went so much further than that. I won’t go down that rabbit hole on this post but I strongly suggest if you have time, please visit this documentary. My personal belief is that anything you want to eat is ok, as long as it's in moderation.

Author’s Note: This documentary was funded by certain organizations that battle against the sugar industry. Please be aware that everything you see you take with a grain of salt. No one side is completely right or wrong.
