The Most Mysterious Star in Our Galaxy

“In the Northern hemisphere’s sky, hovering above the Milky Way, there are two constellations—Cygnus the swan, her wings outstretched in full flight, and Lyra, the harp that accompanied poetry in ancient Greece, from which we take our word “lyric.”

Between these constellations sits an unusual star, invisible to the naked eye, but visible to the Kepler Space Telescope, which stared at it for more than four years, beginning in 2009.” – TheAtlantic

This star stands out from all of the other stars we have been observing for as long as we have been looking up and has caught some attention. When looking at stars scientist will look for “dips” or shadows which would be cast by planets orbiting every XXX number of days/weeks/years. This has helped to figure out how many stars have planets that could possibly be inhabitable. Well this particular star started producing a pattern of dips that was very strange and has since attracted a lot of attention.

The light patterns suggest that there are many objects in a close-fitting proximity so what could it be? Well if the star was young it could be a bunch of dust and matter floating around waiting to form a planet similar to ours did millions and millions of years ago. But! This star is not a young star it is actually a mature star so this dust and matter theory from being a young star should be tossed out the window.

What else could it be? Maybe it is an asteroid belt? Maybe the gravitational pull of the sun is pulling in comets? Whatever it is we know that something strange and different is occurring as this light pattern has not been seen anywhere else across 150,000 stars!

Now we get to the part you really want to here, after all why else would you have read this far? What about unnatural scenarios’; what about a technologically advanced extraterrestrial civilization that created huge megastructures which are now circulating their sun?

As of now we do not know but come January 2016 we should know more. Scientist are planning on pointing a massive radio dish at the strange star to see if it emits radio waves at frequencies associated with technological activity. Do you think someone or something is out there, what if they are looking back at us right now?
